One of the most frequent questions that I am asked as a pastor is this: "Why are there so many different churches and denominations?" There are basically two reasons:

•             People hold to differences in deed.

•             People hold to differences in doctrine.

This is why there are over 38,000 different Christian denominations - differences in deed and differences in doctrine. Some have tried to downplay the importance of doctrine and said, "Let's forget our differences and just all come together as one." Paul, however, taught that doctrine matters, and doctrine should divide.

In this series we discuss the subject of church and denominational names. How did there get to be so many different denominational names? Where did the names come from? Is any one name the right and biblical name? What does God's Word say about church names?
