“Apollos... an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures... was instructed in the way of the Lord. Being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. When Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they... expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.” Acts 18:24-16
Apollos was "mighty in the scriptures," yet humble enough to listen to the instruction of a godly couple that were not even apostles or recognized leaders - Aquila and Priscilla. Apollos was very sincere, but his background and information was limited. While his preaching was Biblical, it was not correct doctrine in light of the new information that Christ had revealed to Paul. Aquila and Priscilla had enjoyed the privilege of first-hand discipleship from the apostle Paul when he lived in their home.
The Bible is a Book of progressive revelation that must be rightly divided or confusion and false doctrine will result. Apollos was preaching Bible, but it was not rightly divided. It was wrong doctrine for the time of grace today.
Many today are sincere and Bible-believing, but they hold to beliefs and doctrines that have no place in the program of God today which was revealed through Paul.
With these lessons, it is our desire to teach others "the way of God more perfectly." Just like Aquila and Priscilla did for Apollos, we want to make sure that others understand where we fit in the plan of God for today. Like Apollos, will you humbly allow the Word of God to do a mighty work in your heart and change your life? If truth is received, it is liberating!
We recommend that you listen to these Bible studies in order and we believe it will provide a solid framework for you to rightly divide the Word of truth for the rest of your life.
